My vision for carbon-neutral policing across Hampshire:
Our police and criminal justice systems are completely overstretched after years of cuts and failed government policies. Prevention is the cornerstone of policing, but it has become ever more neglected over the last decade, leaving us with rising crime and overflowing prisons. As we come through the Covid crisis, we need to increase the focus on crime prevention and build up policing within our communities. To deliver that change, I’m campaigning to become the next Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in the May 2021 elections.
The important work of policing presents particular challenges to becoming carbon-neutral, but we know to meet the 1.5°C global target we have to tackle the hard parts as well delivering the easier wins.
As part of my first 100 days in the role, I will set my specific targets for the police force as a whole, including setting a specific date for the PCC office to be carbon neutral. Delivering safer communities means justice for all, and that includes climate justice.
